Remote power monitoring server

Because L'Monte is located in rugged mountain terrain, the best solar site was almost 200 meters from most of the actual electric loads.  In order to continuously monitor critical electric power values, we designed and built a remote monitoring system based on Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) technology.  The laptop in the center of the picture below receives voltage, current and battery bank charge level information, via an RS-232 connection, from nearby monitoring instruments.

The laptop runs a DCOM server which formats and delivers this information, via underground conduit, to all buildings wired into the L'Monte local area network.    At the receiving end of this system, the power monitoring data is available to any ...
